Description:
This course will survey the history of civil rights laws and issues with a strong focus on disenfranchised groups in society. The development of civil rights law will be explored by studying a number of legal doctrines through case studies about topics such as housing, public accommodation, education, employment, voting, and the criminal justice system. The course will examine the development of constitutional doctrines such as antidiscrimination, color blindness, and anti-subordination to determine if these doctrines satisfy the evolving aspiration of the attainment of rights.
