This course is designed for identified selected highly able students who have met the prerequisites. The course will further develop student reading and writing skills (See English 9) by enhancing the depth and complexity of the core curriculum. Students will use critical thinking skills in analyzing advanced/above-grade level texts. Course work will include advanced novel study, a research/essay (e.g. paper and preparation for AP English.

Placement should be based on the following criteria (It is recommended that: 4 of the 6 following criteria be met): Successful completion of RELA English Grade 8 Honors Teacher Recommendation Counselor Recommendation 50th Percentile or higher on NWEA MAP Parent/Student Request Proficiency with or desire to complete challenging assignments A “4” or “5” on PARCC in the previous grade tested, or on track for College and Career Readiness as evidenced on the PSAT 8/9 or NMSQT
