Description:
Multivariate Differential Calculus is the study of differential calculus for functions of two or more variables. The course includes vectors and vector-valued functions in 2- and 3-space, tangent and normal vectors, curvature, functions of two or more variables, partial derivatives and differentiability, directional derivatives and gradients, maxima and minima, and optimization using Lagrange multipliers. Students may take the first semester of the course without taking the second semester but may not take semester 2 without taking semester 1.
