UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell released the following statement on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program:

“President Trump announced earlier this week that he plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. Since 2012, DACA has provided thousands of young people, many of whom were brought to the United States as children, with an opportunity to remain in the only country they have called home. They have been able to pursue higher education, enroll in the military, pay taxes, and drive legally. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to support our students, staff, and families impacted by this decision.

“The U.S. public school system has helped our young people to become productive, civic-minded, and responsible members of our democratic society. We call on Congress to act quickly to pass the DREAM Act so that DREAMers across our nation continue to have access to an education and economic security, and all Americans can enjoy a stronger, more prosperous nation. PGCPS will continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment in which all of our students can thrive. We stand alongside our students and families to ensure their well-being and safety while providing a world-class education to all.”
