UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Graduation season in Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) begins this week with College Signing Day on May 1, a celebration of students’ commitment to higher education, and the inaugural CTE Career Signing Day on May 2 for students entering private industry, apprenticeships and military service.

"Excellence is our standard for every student, from the first day of school to graduation day," said Dr. Monica Goldson, Interim Chief Executive Officer. "We are proud to celebrate our young achievers for charting a course beyond high school that will prepare them for a bright future. Through a commitment to academic excellence, our graduates have earned their success and our admiration."

PGCPS College Signing Day aims to inspire more students to pursue higher education, part of the national College Signing Day/Reach Higher initiative by former first lady Michelle Obama. Several schools will host Signing Day events, during which students will announce their plans.

CTE Career Signing Day is new this year. Business partners who plan to hire students in the Career and Technical Education program will be in attendance Thursday at the formal event, held at Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 5 Training Center in Lanham.

Additionally, the Heart of America Foundation will open a new College and Career Center at Parkdale High School, featuring new furniture, 40 Chromebooks, computers, career-themed artwork and more.

High school seniors are encouraged to share their plans on social media (#PGCPSCollegeSigningDay, #CTECareerSigningDay and #AchievingExcellence).
