Dr. Monica Goldson, Interim Chief Executive Officer, issued the following statement regarding email and social media threats against three schools:

“Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and law enforcement authorities have identified the individual behind email and social media threats to Bladensburg and Parkdale high schools and William Wirt Middle School. The threats were deemed non-credible.

“Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) and its Homeland Security Division investigated the matter. Through the course of their investigation, detectives determined the suspect did not have the means necessary to carry out the threats.

“Additional safety measures were taken at all three schools today. Prince George’s County Public Schools takes any threat against students, schools, and employees seriously. Any student who threatens violence against a school can face expulsion and criminal charges.

“Parents are reminded to discuss with their children the severity of making false threats of violence. I would like to thank Bladensburg, Parkdale and William Wirt staff for their vigilance and Prince George’s County Police Department and Homeland Security Division detectives for their collaboration.”
