News Release: PGCPS to Host 4th Annual Family Institute and County Government Resource Fair

Dr. Steve Perry, internationally-renowned motivational speaker and founder of Capital Preparatory Schools, will keynote the 4th Annual Family Institute Conference and County Government Resource Fair, a free event held by Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) in partnership with the Prince George’s County Office of the County Executive. This year’s theme is “EmPowering Families for Student Success.”

Family Institute aims to increase participation and collaboration between families, schools and the larger community in support of student achievement. The conference features parent and student workshops and an Exhibitor Hall with county government resources, college and university representatives, community partners and local business vendors. CEO Dr. Monica Goldson and County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks will give remarks. Approximately 2,000 attendees are expected.

Conference topics include navigating the school system, college and career preparation, social media safety, specialty programs and support services.

Dr. Perry founded Capital Preparatory Schools in Connecticut and New York. The educator, social worker and best-selling author who has been featured on a host of networks, including CNN, MSNBC, TV One, BET and OWN.
The conference is one of several system-wide events that highlight the role of families in strengthening school communities.

Family Institute will hold sessions throughout the year along four themes:

Family Empowerment – Supports participants’ personal and professional goals, focusing on child development, effective parenting practices, parent leadership and advocacy.
21st Century Learning – Fosters in-depth understanding of curriculum, assessments, academic supports, policies and procedures.
Health and Wellness – Healthy habits that promote success, emphasizing physical, social and emotional well-being.
PGCPS Connects – Equips PGCPS staff with best practices in family and community engagement.
