UPPER MARLBORO, MD —  State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Salmon announced Thursday all Maryland public schools will close Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27 as a part of ongoing efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). CEO Dr. Monica Goldson issued the following statement in response:

“Today’s announcement is a critical step toward ensuring Prince George’s County Public Schools continues to keep the health of our students and employees as our highest priority. As we begin to implement the guidance provided from the Maryland State Department of Education, all public school buildings and buses will be cleaned and disinfected during the closure.

“Tomorrow, all schools with the exception of Eleanor Roosevelt High School and College Park Academy will be open. During this time, students will receive written assignments and resources to ensure every student participates in the continuity of educational services. Throughout the duration of this period, we will work with MSDE to develop plans regarding meals for students. We encourage families and community members to frequently visit our designated coronavirus information and resource website at www.pgcps.org/coronavirus. We will continue to keep you updated.”
