UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Chief Executive Officer Dr. Monica Goldson has established a Medical Advisory Team to provide guidance for the reopening of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).

Dr. Goldson will meet regularly with the Medical Advisory Team on matters related to student and staff health screenings, local health metrics, personal protective equipment and any new protocols needed to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school system continues to operate under full distance learning.

“Regular engagement with healthcare professionals is critical as we weather the recent statewide surge in COVID-19 cases and analyze our own distance learning survey results indicating discomfort with in-person instruction,” said Dr. Goldson. “This team’s counsel will be invaluable in making decisions that prioritize the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, employees and families.”

The Medical Advisory Team members are listed below:

  • Dr. George L. Askew — Prince George’s County Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Health, Human Services & Education
  • Crystal Beckford, RN — CareFirst Senior Director of Patient-Centered Medical Home and Regional Care Coordination
  • Dr. Adrienne G. Collier — Kaiser Permanente Chief of Pediatrics, District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland Service Area
  • Dr. David J. Mathison — PM Pediatrics Vice President, Clinical Operations and Pediatric Emergency Physician
  • Dr. Joelle N. Simpson — Children’s National Hospital Medical Director for Emergency Preparedness

database of school and office building closures related to COVID-19 and daily county metrics are available on the PGCPS website. For more information on reopening plans, visit www.pgcps.org/reopen.
