UPPER MARLBORO, MD The Prince George’s County Board of Education has unanimously approved a $2.8 billion operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY 2024).

The budget focuses on investments in educational and operational improvements for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) through transformation, equity and innovation. It represents an approximate 5.7% increase over the current $2.7 billion spending plan.

The strategic plan includes five focus areas: Academic Innovation, Transformational Workforce, Organizational Learning Culture, Safe and Supportive Environments and Infrastructure and Operational Enhancements.

"The approved budget for Fiscal Year 2024 reflects our collective commitment to improving learning outcomes for every student in Prince George's County Public Schools,” said Board of Education Chair Judy Mickens-Murray. “Through strategic investments in educational and operational enhancements, we are prioritizing critical student-focused initiatives and ensuring students have the resources and support they need to thrive."

Priorities for the 2023-24 school year focus on critical student-focused initiatives:

  • Student performance in mathematics
  • Enhancing school climate
  • Supporting social and emotional learning and mental health

The budget also expands and improves instructional programs, accountability systems and student services and supports.

The FY 2024 budget includes $1.55 billion in state funds, $943 million from the county, $232 million from the federal government, $70 million from the fund balance and $11 million from Board sources. In addition to fully funding the requirements of the Blueprint, the county provided an additional investment of $7.7 million for the repair, maintenance and testing of Artificial Turf Athletic Fields at nine designated high schools, as well as renovations of other school facilities.
