PGCPS celebrated Women’s History Month with the opening of the Jaguar General Store at William Wirt Middle School — a partnership with women-led organizations to provide free essentials to families in need.

Graduation Rate Reaches New Heights
“Our students are not just graduating — they’re defying the odds.” | The Class of 2024 reached an 80.02% graduation rate — a 5.6-point jump over last year and more than triple the state’s overall improvement. Hispanic students saw an increase of nearly 12 points, and English Learners gained 14.6 points. The data highlights the impact of targeted supports and the unwavering determination of students, families, and educators.

“She empowers students to lead, advocate and care for one another.” | Kettering Middle School nurse Egypt Middleton was named Maryland School Nurse of the Year for her commitment to student health, education and wellness. Her leadership in schoolwide programs like the Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes reflects the district’s focus on student well-being.

“A 46% drop in student incidents shows that prevention works.” | Safety investments are paying off. With enhanced school security, incident and contraband rates fell dramatically. The district is also embedding crime prevention into school design.

PGCPS expanded its Synergy platform to include enrollment for specialty programs and real-time family access via ParentVUE. These upgrades reflect a broader commitment to transparency and tech-enabled engagement.

This year, 97 teachers achieved National Board Certification, raising the district’s total to 635. The accomplishment reflects PGCPS’ commitment to educator growth and instructional excellence.

Olympic gold medalist Quincy Wilson made a surprise visit to his former elementary school! The youngest Olympic track-and-field gold medalist, Wilson attended Tulip Grove Elementary from 2014 - 2017.
