The Asbestos Abatement Worker II performs maintenance and repair activities on and around asbestos containing materials (ACM) to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for school facilities. An employee in this class has the responsibility for carrying out asbestos abatement response actions (removal, repair, encapsulation, etc.) as determined in the mandated Asbestos Management Plans, removing ACM to allow regular routine maintenance activities to occur and completing the relative paper work documenting such. An individual in this class must be able to follow and understand verbal and written directions relative to response action design(s) as well as understanding routine maintenance repair activities. The incumbent may be responsible for the supervision of subordinates in his charge and is routinely called upon to adjust hours of work as required to accommodate asbestos related projects.
High school diploma or GED with increasing responsible experiences involving abatement or asbestos materials, building trades and/or building maintenance, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certification by EPA and State of Maryland as an Asbestos Abatement Worker and Supervisor; possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George's County Public School's Bulletin P-1-88 dated July 21, 1987).
May supervise Apprentices and Trades Helpers.
