Performs skilled work in the repair and replacing of upholstery and harnesses in a variety of school buses and Board of Education vehicles. This is highly skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized upholstery and harness maintenance and repair work of school buses and Board of Education vehicles. The incumbent of this position uses independent judgment as to the method of repair after receiving oral instructions or written work orders as to the nature of the job. Work is done independently under the supervision of the Automotive Upholsterer II.
Completion of a high school diploma or GED with some experience in upholstery work, supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "B" with endorsements "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) required or the ability to obtain within the probationary period for new employees or within 6 months of obtaining the position for current PGCPS employees; CDL Class "A" with "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus and Air Brake) preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged.
