Position Summary:

The Bilingual Parent and Community Outreach Assistant will conduct outreach in the community to educate and engage families and community partners to participate in the Judy Center Early Learning Hubs program. The incumbent will be responsible for engaging parents/caregivers and their children in programs and services offered at the Judy Center Early Learning Hubs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the implementation of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Judy Center Early Learning Hubs (JCELH) component standards;
  • Conducts weekly outreach in the community to recruit families with children ages prenatal to five years old;
  • Participates on various committees, task groups , and work team meetings to support the mission of the JCELH;
  • Collaborates with new and existing partner programs to establish relationships with programs serving children ages prenatal to five years old;
  • Collaborates with the JCELH site teams to support parent/child engagement programs;
  • Maintains adequate documentation; i.e., sign-in sheets, agendas, notes, forms for meetings and community outreach activities;
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of current effective practices and trends for implementation;
  • Maintains ongoing, effective communication with all parents, community, and staff regarding school readiness and parent involvement; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated fluency in bilingual reading, writing and speaking skills in English and another high-need language based on proficiency testing in both English and the high-need language;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, students, families, and the public;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc.) and skilled using the internet for work related research;
  • Superior grammar, spelling and proofreading skills in both English and the high-need language;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment, tact, diplomacy, patience, and courtesy;
  • Knowledge of strategies that support family engagement;
  • Ability to make presentations before large audiences; i.e., parents and community members;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate events that foster family participation;
  • Strong time and project management skills; and
  • Ability to maintain documentation to provide evidence of parental engagement activities  

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred); experience developing and presenting culturally appropriate parent trainings enabling high poverty parents to actively engage in their child’s successful educational experience.
