Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, the Community Liaison serves as a critical connection between the members of the Board of Education and the community. The incumbent of this position will ensure smooth communication, coordination and support for the Board's functions and will assist in providing timely and responsive constituent services. The Community Liaison will support the mission of the Board of Education and will participate in the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the school district’s parent and community engagement strategies and activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitates communication and serves as a liaison between the Board, committees, the community and other stakeholders;
- Represents the Board at county meetings, committee panels and task groups as assigned;
- Works closely with the Director, members of the Board of Education and Board of Education Office staff to support communication, coordination and effective service delivery;
- Assists constituents, including parents, students and community members, with inquiries, concerns and complaints;
- Examines programs, administrative procedures and policies and makes recommendations for improvements and appropriate plans of action;
- Organizes and coordinates community outreach and external relations efforts;
- Facilitates responsive, accurate, proactive and collaborative communication with the community;
- Attends and participates in school events, PTA/PTO meetings, civic association meetings, athletic events and other community functions to maintain visibility and open lines of communication;
- Maintains confidential records and databases related to constituent services, inquiries and correspondence;
- Builds relationships with PGCPS departments and external community partners to share resources and foster collaboration; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to gather, organize, analyze and report information and data, and present same to individuals and groups of varying sizes;
- Ability to operate calmly under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times;
- Demonstrates integrity, tact and the utmost discretion when dealing with confidential information and sensitive situations;
- Superior organizational, time management and project management skills; detail-oriented thinker, exhibiting strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences and situations; bilingual preferred;
- Must be proficient in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office (i.e., Word and Excel) and Google applications;
- Ability to develop and implement school system related programs involving parents and the community;
- Must be collaborative and have an excellent ability to work in a team environment with experience in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures; and
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for meetings and events, and be able to travel to schools and other locations on behalf of the Board.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, public administration, communications or a related field required. A minimum of three (3) years of previous experience in community engagement or a related field required; previous experience in public education preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
