Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, the Director of Innovative Instructional Programs is responsible for the overall development, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of the teaching and learning processes and programming for schools within the innovation area. The incumbent of this position collaborates with the Associate Superintendent and other district leaders to oversee and manage instructional operations and curriculum components. The Director supports the system’s efforts to foster rigorous instructional practices, data-informed improvement cycles, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning that yield equitable outcomes for all students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the teaching and learning processes and programming of the schools within the innovation area;
  • Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of innovative instructional programs to ensure sustained, measurable improvements in student outcomes;
  • Collaborates with district partners to support the instructional operations of the schools within the innovation area and alignment of instructional operations to federal and state expectations;
  • Assists the Associate Superintendent with the monitoring of area goals to ensure alignment with the district’s Strategic Plan, Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, schools’ performance plans, and the achievement of program goals;
  • Supports the implementation and monitoring of innovative models for curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy to reimagine learning environments in ways that empower students and educators;
  • Researches, explores and supports leaders and staff with the implementation of innovative evidence based strategies to improve student achievement; maintains a continuous improvement lens through the analysis of data;
  • Engages in collaborative planning with department leaders to ensure that schools within the innovation area receive the necessary human, fiscal, and technological resources; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of public school laws in Maryland, bylaws of the State Board of Education and the policies of the Board of Education of Prince George’s County;
  • Thorough understanding of curriculum and instruction and other pupil related services;
  • Demonstrated experience implementing innovative strategies in underperforming schools, including leading professional development and change management initiatives;
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative, high-impact solutions;
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels of the organization;
  • Expertise in the use of data to drive instructional improvement and organizational learning;
  • Ability to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting;
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people, including but not limited to central office personnel, principals, teachers, parents and students;
  • Excellent organizational ability and strong human relation skills; and
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or a related field required; Doctorate preferred.  Minimum of five (5) years of instructional experience and three (3) years of administrator experience required.  Previous experience as a Principal and/or central administrator preferred.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for a valid professional license in Administrator II (historical) or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, or Principal issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees and provides guidance to assigned personnel.
