Position Summary:

Under the direction of the General Counsel, the EEO Investigative Specialist will be responsible for assisting the EEO Administrators with conducting thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of discrimination, bullying, harassment and retaliation. The incumbent of this position will prepare investigation reports and other materials/documents needed to report the outcome of investigations.  The EEO Investigative Specialist will ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and employment practices and will utilize best practices in conducting all aspects of an investigation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the EEO Administrators by assisting with processing internal investigations into allegations of discrimination, bullying, harassment and retaliation;
  • Identifies the appropriate parties and witnesses relevant to investigations;
  • Communicates with complainants, respondents and witnesses to gather relevant information to support investigations;
  • Collects and analyzes documents, records and other evidence pertinent to an investigation;
  • Prepares clear, concise and detailed investigative reports and professionally written summaries;
  • Completes investigations and related reports within anticipated timeframes;
  • Maintains detailed and organized case files and investigative notes; ensures complete and accurate documentation of records and notes related to the investigative process;
  • Makes recommendations related to communications, policies/procedures and trainings to inform and educate on matters of fair employment practices;
  • Attends meetings and professional development to remain current on best practices related to employee investigations;
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information to which exposed; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations related to EEO;
  • Knowledge of investigative principles and best practices;
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive and professionally written reports;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups; ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and school personnel
  • Ability to remain impartial and objective throughout the investigative process;
  • Ability to effectively manage and lead investigative, confidential and sensitive inquiries;
  • Ability to perform administrative functions independently; and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other business technology applications, such as Google applications and video/web conferencing.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in law, criminal justice or a related field required.  A minimum of five (5) years of experience conducting EEO investigations or related investigatory work required.  Previous experience with an educational or public sector environment preferred.  Ten (10) years of EEO investigative experience or related investigatory work may be substituted for the education requirement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

Additional Information:

Work schedules may include evenings and weekends. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal hours with little or no advanced notice. Driver’s License is required inasmuch as there will be a need to travel to sites throughout the school district.
