The Equipment Mechanic performs general maintenance and repair work on a variety of mechanical equipment used in support of all buildings of the Prince George’s County Public Schools. An employee in this class is responsible for maintaining a wide variety of mechanical equipment such as vacuum sweepers, snow blowers, blacktop rollers, lawn mowers, portable generators, large horsepower air cooled engines and minor repairs to heavy equipment, i.e., backhoes, graders, bulldozers. Work is preformed independently, but under the general supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Foreman II.
Progressively responsible experience in small engine and mechanical work. Some experience in the repair of small appliances and electrical equipment and completion of a standard grade school course preferably supplemented by completion of a vocational or trade school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
