Working under the general supervision of the Garage Coordinator II, Automotive Foreman II and III, the Garage Coordinator I oversees the work of automotive mechanics and other shop personnel on assigned shift. The incumbent performs school bus and other vehicle maintenance as required. The Garage Coordinator I prioritizes all garage work order repairs in accordance with the direction and guidance provided by the Garage Coordinator II. The incumbent will provide oversight and guidance to the Automotive Mechanic II, Automotive Mechanic I, Trades Helper and Shop Store Clerk.
A completion/graduate of a standard high school, GED, trade or vocational school course(s) in automobile and truck, vehicle maintenance with gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles. A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a skilled automotive and medium truck technician, involving repairs of buses, automobiles, and related equipment to include experience in the service and repair of Cummins, IHC International, Mack engines and Allison automatic transmissions.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "B" with endorsements "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) required or the ability to obtain within the probationary period for new employees or within 6 months of obtaining the position for current PGCPS employees; CDL Class "A" with "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus and Air Brake) preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged.
