Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Induction and Educator Support, the Induction Coach will support the work of the PGCPS Strategic Plan to realize workforce and operational excellence leading to operational efficiency and will support the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership’s (OPLL) mission to provide meaningful high-quality learning opportunities for all employees.  The incumbent of this position will provide coaching, demonstration lessons, shared lesson planning and professional development sessions to support all first year educators, as well as those educators requesting/needing support assigned to their caseload.  The Induction Coach will informally observe classroom performance and will provide feedback to assigned educators, as well as prepare reports/documentation regarding the progress of educators assigned to their caseload.  Additional responsibilities include providing support and assisting with management of the Teacher Leader Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the design and delivery of all components of the Professional Educator Induction Program (PEIP), including monthly PEIP sessions and Praxis Prep training for all educators;
  • Assists in establishing and monitoring school-based New Teacher Academies for new educators;
  • Provides structured opportunities for peer coaching and reflection on lesson design, delivery and assessment in order to appropriately adjust coaching and professional development for early career educators;
  • Assists with the development and implementation of systemic professional development for all employees;
  • Coordinates and trains school-based teacher leaders to provide job-embedded, ongoing instructional support to new educators in their building;
  • Collaborates with the PGCPS Certification Office, the Resident Teacher Program and the Conditional Educator Program to support educators in meeting certification requirements;
  • Collaborates with Human Resources Operations and Staffing to provide onboarding for new educators;
  • Conducts informal observations of educators in assigned caseload to provide feedback on instructional practice, strategies and/or resources;
  • Prepares and submits reports and documentation regarding the progress of all educators in assigned caseload; creates and maintains accurate data logs;
  • Analyzes student needs, including data analysis for instructional decision making; assists with the implementation of best instructional practices;
  • Assists educators in assessing students’ abilities, talents and strengths to identify appropriate learning modalities to plan and teach with those abilities in mind;
  • Assists with the design and delivery (including team teaching, co-teaching and instructional modeling) of differentiated instruction in mixed-ability classrooms; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated professional development experience at the school and/or system level;
  • Skill and experience working with school teams and leaders to support the implementation of systemic teacher effectiveness initiatives;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teacher leadership role (i.e., department / grade level chairperson, school leadership team member, etc.);
  • Demonstrated competency in developing and leading professional learning opportunities for instructional staff and parents;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills/human relations skills;
  • Ability to transition between school-based and central office support seamlessly;
  • Ability to effectively utilize technology, including experience with using Google applications, Microsoft Office Suite, eDoctrina or comparable online professional development software;
  • Providing effective customer service; and
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule that includes travel to multiple schools.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or a closely related field required. A minimum of ten (10) years of successful teaching experience required with five (5) years in a teacher leadership capacity required.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
