Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Coordinating Supervisor – Literacy, the Instructional Specialist – Digital Literacy will support technology integration, digital literacy, online learning and the implementation of the school system’s Literacy Plan 2.0 initiative. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for conducting technology integration training sessions and coordinating and collaborating with the content supervisors to design and implement digital curricula. The Instructional Specialist – Digital Literacy will assist educators in improving their teaching and learning and build their capacity to employ effective literacy strategies into their daily classroom practices to meet the demands of Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development and implementation of PGCPS’s Literacy Plan;
- Assists supervisors in the integration of technology into the curriculum; collaborates to build educator capacity around technology integration and digital literacy;
- Assists supervisors in the development of online courses using a learning management system;
- Designs and develops comprehensive training programs and reference materials;
- Coaches instructional staff in the use of instructional technology; demonstrates model practices/lessons within schools;
- Conducts professional development in the area of technology integration; provides professional development that supports rigorous instruction and differentiation to improve student achievement;
- Collaborates with Technology Training Team and other instructional staff to integrate technology;
- Researches and provides information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative digital literacy practices through various venues such as individual discussions (formal/informal), study groups, and professional learning communities;
- Provides formal teacher observations using the Framework for Teaching Rubric and written feedback for informal observations;
- Attends professional development to enhance knowledge of digital literacy and instructional strategies in literacy; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of technology integration models, instructional and digital skills and strategies, state content and technology standards, and online educational tools and platforms;
- Demonstrated skills in effective human relationships and oral and written communication,
- Ability to infuse technology into curriculum and excellent knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning processes;
- Ability to design and enhance curriculum activities using technology as an instructional tool;
- Ability to establish a plan for an ongoing evaluation cycle to transform learning with technology;
- Excellence in teaching; thorough knowledge of Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, assessment and instruction;
- Ability to coach, model, and build the knowledge and skills of educators through professional development; and
- Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and cloud-based systems.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in educational technology, literacy/reading, educational administration or a closely related field required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required and three (3) years of PGCPS teaching preferred.
Certification:
Holds or is eligible for a valid professional license in Administrator I (historical) or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, or Principal issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
