Position Summary:
The Instructional Specialist - Immersion is responsible for assisting immersion schools providing direct support to all classroom immersion educators and coordinators with the appropriate methodology, best practices, strategies and content infusion for immersion programs. The incumbent of this position is responsible for providing resource assistance to all immersion programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observes and assists immersion educators with classroom instruction, organization and management;
- Provides appropriate immersion strategies to new and tenured teachers of immersion programs;
- Plans and implements ongoing staff development based on assessed needs of world language and immersion educators;
- Assists in monitoring all immersion programs in all schools;
- Creates, develops and assists with immersion and world language curriculum documents;
- Assists in enrollment study and other analyses of immersion data;
- Plans and conducts in-service programs for educators focusing on effective instructional immersion strategies;
- Assists in the preparation of grants and in the preparation of budgets and purchase orders;
- Engages in collaborative planning with other disciplines in support of assessments;
- Compiles information for yearly approval list of immersion classroom instructional materials catalog;
- Provides demonstration lessons for teachers;
- Attends meetings and performs other duties as requested by the Instructional Supervisor, Coordinating Supervisor and/or the Director; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies;
- Demonstrated expertise in Immersion programs relevant to Foreign Language;
- Experience in the design and/or implementation of immersion programs and innovative techniques in world languages and/or related fields;
- Evidence of good human relations and social skills; and
- Teaching experience in Foreign Languages.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
Certification:
Advanced Professional Certification with a language endorsement and Administration I endorsement required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
