Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor – School Leadership Programs, the Instructional Specialist will be responsible for working closely with the core team in providing professional development to principals and assistant principals. The responsibilities of this position include collaboration with central office personnel for program planning. This position supports the day-to-day work of supporting leadership programming for principals and assistant principals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Supervisor in the development and implementation of professional development opportunities, workshops, conferences, institutes and seminars for school leadership programs;
  • Assists the Supervisor in the development and professional learning for novice assistant principals and principals;
  • Works proactively to design training materials based on the needs of the school system;
  • Reviews professional learning survey data and makes recommendations for professional learning opportunities that are aligned with the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership’s framework and the district’s strategic plan;
  • Attends program related conferences, workshops, meetings, etc; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work collaboratively to improve instruction using research-based approaches;
  • Demonstrates competence in developing, leading, and evaluating professional development programs and initiatives;
  • Knowledge of state standards and alternative modes of assessment;
  • Ability to analyze performance and participation data, as well as manage and develop reports;
  • Understanding and expertise in implementing accommodations and modifications;
  • Effective planning and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multitask and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to proactively work in partnership with others to achieve a common goal or necessary objective;
  • Ability to effectively convey reliable, accurate information for easy interpretation by the recipient;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, conducting on-line training opportunities and other technological platforms and programs i.e. Oracle, Google, etc.; and
  • Demonstrated skills in effective human relations and in oral and written communications.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in educational leadership, educational administration and supervision, or a closely related field, required.  A minimum of ten (10) years of professional teaching experience required. Must have experience in large group organizational training, logistics and event planning.

Certification:

Advanced Professional Certificate with Administration I endorsement required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
