Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist – Career Counseling is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of a robust career counseling program in collaboration with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Employ Prince George’s (EPG). The incumbent of this position will serve as the lead in PGCPS for the career counseling program and will serve as the main liaison between PGCPS, PGCC and EPG. The Instructional Specialist will represent PGCPS in partner meetings as well as meetings with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the creation of a coherent vision and programming for the career counseling program in collaboration with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Employ Prince George’s (EPG);
- Coordinates collaborative partnerships with EPG and PGCC to design, implement and monitor the career counseling program;
- Facilitates training and meetings for career counselors and other program partners on PGCPS, MSDE and AIB protocols and policies;
- Maintains communication with Blueprint partners and ensures compliance with district, state and federal policies, procedures and laws;
- Provides updates and information at Blueprint partner meetings; prepares related presentations and reports;
- Develops, reviews and monitors all required state reporting requirements to ensure the school system's compliance;
- Participates and attends national, state and county meetings and professional development opportunities related to the Blueprint career counseling program;
- Evaluates the design and delivery of the career counseling program and experiences of students;
- Conducts assessments, data collection and analysis of formal and informal data for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of the program; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of designing, managing and evaluating programs;
- Ability to maintain communication and ensure compliance with district, state and federal policies, procedures and laws;
- Knowledge or experience with grant compliance and reporting;
- Ability to lead and motivate staff and external partners to meet performance targets;
- Strategic and responsible decision-maker who displays consistent follow-through in meeting goals and achieving measurable results;
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office suites to include Word, Excel and Google Docs/Sheets;
- Familiarity with Naviance, SchoolLinks or other college and career readiness platforms;
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining high attention to detail;
- Ability to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting to manage meetings and develop presentations;
- Ability to lead cross-functional and cross organizational teams;
- Must be a self-starter, able to work well independently, with limited supervision; and
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school administration and supervision, counseling, education or a related field required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required. Previous experience leading a project team or cross-divisional initiative preferred.
Certification:
Holds or is eligible for a valid professional license in Administrator I (historical) or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, or Principal issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE); endorsement in a secondary content area and/or counseling required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
