Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist – Talented and Gifted (TAG) will be responsible for providing district-wide leadership, coordination and support for successful and sustainable program implementation. The incumbent of this position will support the Instructional Supervisor in the recruitment and training of TAG educators and serve as a point of contact for the TAG program. The Instructional Specialist will also oversee data collection and reporting for the district.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and facilitates professional development and meetings with TAG Coordinators, TAG Resource Teachers and other staff in order to increase instructional capacity;
- Facilitates communication and collaboration between schools inclusive of coordinators and administrators and conduct learning walks, sharing of best practices, and other aspects of the program;
- Conducts teacher observations and provides targeted, actionable feedback to school administration;
- Collaborates with content specialists across the Division of Academics to design and implement learning experiences that enrich and extend opportunities for TAG students;
- Collaborates with the Department of Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries and the Department of Research, Testing and Evaluation regarding specialty programs admissions, continuity, assessments and data collection;
- Designs, plans and implements parent engagement events to inform and promote TAG instructional programming;
- Assists in the management of budgets, purchase orders and resource allocations related to TAG programs;
- Adapts professional development and training content to best meet the needs of different audiences such as new and experienced TAG educators and administrators;
- Identifies strategies to support or intervene with underperforming TAG programs at particular schools based on data reviews and observations;
- Serves as the primary point of contact for TAG programs which includes long-term and short-term planning and decision making;
- Works with school principals and TAG coordinators to identify school-based and district goals related to TAG;
- Conducts assessments, data collection and analysis of formal and informal data for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of the program; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs and assessments;
- Ability to provide leadership for TAG programs that provide rigor across the instructional content areas;
- Leadership and team building skills to provide vision and guidance for district-wide program implementation;
- Ability to assist in the management of budgets, purchase orders and resource allocations;
- Knowledge of TAG methodology, programming and reporting requirements;
- Knowledge of school organization and school system goals and objectives;
- Knowledge of effective collaborative planning techniques;
- Knowledge of PGCPS administrative policies and procedures;
- Skilled in program management;
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Skilled in using educational technology and other technology platforms such as Microsoft, Google applications and Zoom conferencing platforms;
- Ability to lead and coach diverse teams and educators; and
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, the community and other school system staff.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school administration and supervision, counseling, education or a related field required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required. Previous experience as a TAG coordinator or TAG teacher preferred.
Certification:
Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
