Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and administration of procedures. The incumbent will also assist with the day-to-day efficient and safe functioning of the school system’s maintenance complex. The Maintenance Technician will work with the Facilities Supervisor to develop and manage contracted services and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists Supervisor with plans, schedules, assignments, and inspections. Helps coordinate the work performed by personnel in Building Services;
- Acts as the liaison with Federal, State and Local agencies;
- Develops procurement documents, schedules and other departmental documentation and contracted services;
- Participates in the interviewing of personnel;
- Maintains facility inventory of inspections and reports, ensuring all response deadlines are met; and maintains daily work reports, work schedules;
- Assists the Facilities Supervisor with monitoring data relative to work orders using the Global Positioning System Vehicle monitoring systems;
- Coordinates annual Maintenance Plan;
- Arranges maintenance schedules for motor vehicles and repairs of malfunctioning equipment, and notifies Master Foremen when service checks on equipment and machinery are due;
- Confers with supervisory personnel to coordinate operational activities and material deliveries;
- Oversees inventory and maintains records of stock and equipment; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, safety practices and equipment involved in the maintenance Administration;
- Good knowledge of associated trades;
- Ability to coordinate inspection and compile associated documentation ermine manpower, material and time required;
- Ability to create standard procedures and other significant departmental documentation;
- Knowledge of technology (computer and/or mobile device) to enter materials, labor hours, status and details of the work done into the online work order management system;
- Must be able to work during the day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the department;
- Ability to assist in the effective operation of Building Services;
- Ability to plan, schedule, implement, and supervise state evaluation process;
- Ability to develop effective work standards;
- Ability to prepare reports;
- Proficient written, oral and computerized communication skills; and
- Effective human relations skills, both internal and external to the school system.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school required. Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in construction management, administration, social sciences or related field preferred.
Certification:
None required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May oversee staff account clerks and field operations for special projects, when necessary.

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
