The Oil Burner Mechanic I performs skilled work in the adjusting and servicing of temperature controls and in the maintenance and repair of oil burners and related heating equipment in the county schools. This is skilled work at the crew level, involving specialized mechanical work and requires an advanced knowledge of heating equipment and systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Oil Burner Mechanic II, Lead and/or Shop Coordinator, who lay out assignments. Detailed instructions on performing each step are seldom given. Work is checked based on completion for satisfactory performance.
High school graduate supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship or trade school and some experience in the trade, some of which shall have been at the level of a trades helper or journeyman.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
Oversees and provides guidance to Trades Helpers and Apprentices.
