Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Coordinating Supervisor, Instructional Supports, Assessment & Accountability, the Parent Involvement Liaison develops and executes parent involvement workshops for families and district staff to encourage effective family and parent involvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops parent training workshops related to Special Education;
  • Researches topics, provides goals, objectives, resource materials and evaluation tools;
  • Conducts parent and community needs assessment;
  • Develops, administers and assesses surveys;
  • Interviews parents, program staff and community service agencies;
  • Maintains an effective recording system for services provided;
  • Prepares reports related to parent education programs, workshops and activities conducted;
  • Gathers and presents detailed data pertaining to parent involvement activities occurring in schools;
  • Participates on various committees, panels, work teams and task groups as appropriate;
  • Participates in school meetings, forums and other district-wide meetings pertaining to parent involvement;
  • Researches and procures resource materials for dissemination to schools;
  • Devises an equitable system for rendering services to schools;
  • Reviews current literature to determine future relevant areas to be addressed by the program;
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of current effective practices and trends for implementation;
  • Assists with other Department of Special Education Family Support Center Office activities assigned (e.g. extended school year/surrogacy);
  • Maintains resource library and related inventory; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of the special education process;
  • Native or native-like proficiency in Spanish, as well as proficiency in English;
  • Ability to establish rapport with students from other cultures and to mediate between students of different cultures;
  • Computer literacy to include MS Office software;
  • Superior grammar, spelling and proofreading skills;
  • Ability to make presentations before large audiences; and
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Previous experience working to support school programs and community/non-profit organizations preferred.

Certification:

None required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
