Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) Coordinator, the Preventative Maintenance Foreman will manage the school system’s maintenance strategy by scheduling and overseeing routine maintenance on equipment, machinery and facilities to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal operation. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for developing maintenance schedules and maintaining detailed maintenance records.  The Preventative Maintenance Foreman will collaborate with maintenance teams and vendors for maximizing asset longevity, minimizing downtime, and improving overall productivity and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees preventative maintenance repair operations, analyzes processes within individual crews and shops to make recommendations to improve the flow of operations;
  • Ensures personnel has the equipment and supplies necessary to perform preventative maintenance by monitoring the use of supplies/materials and distributing supplies/materials and equipment as needed;
  • Creates preventative maintenance schedules for all mechanical equipment in the CMMS system; manages preventative maintenance work orders to ensure data integrity;
  • Maintains detailed and accurate logs of all maintenance activities;
  • Generates reports on maintenance needs, equipment downtime, repair costs and overall status;
  • Analyzes data to identify recurring issues and adjusts preventative maintenance plans as needed;
  • Collaborates with shop managers to schedule preventative maintenance work by staff;
  • Assists with the establishment of contract guidelines and oversees implementation throughout completion;
  • Provides input regarding recommendations for purchasing supplies, materials, services and/or equipment;
  • Contributes to the establishment of the annual budget for maintenance crews’ equipment and supplies, including making decisions for amendments, as necessary;
  • Assists with developing and implementing standard operating procedures and performance evaluations; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of maintenance practices for mechanical systems;
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance scheduling and work order system operations;
  • Understanding of workplace safety regulations;
  • Ability to create and apply new procedures;
  • Good interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communications skills;
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to lead a team and supervise staff members;
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and
  • Ability to compile and analyze data to make decisions and to develop budgets for the department.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Graduation from high school required.  A minimum of five (5) years of experience working within a maintenance department and/or construction required; school system experience preferred. 

Certification:

None required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provides guidance and supervision to assigned personnel.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
