Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Program Coordinator – Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) is responsible for implementing and monitoring the FACS courses, and monitoring compliance and educator needs for course improvements and enhancements. The Program Coordinator also works closely with teachers and post-secondary partners providing program development and support, and professional development opportunities at all designated high schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides instructional support through coaching and maintaining/updating curriculum documents and Canvas courses;
  • Implements, monitors and assesses the FACS courses to ensure effectiveness of teaching and learning;
  • Assists with preparing the annual budget; coordinates acquisition, delivery and inventory of materials of instruction and equipment;
  • Assists with the coordination, design and facilitation of professional development and training programs;
  • Assists in evaluating instructional materials, textbooks, software and industry materials and equipment;
  • Collects, maintains and analyzes statistical data on courses;
  • Arranges events and activities to promote FACS, including Financial Literacy Month programs;
  • Facilitates the Financial Literacy Program Advisory Committee;
  • Works with and supports educators to ensure the curricula are followed and troubleshoots concerns with the appropriate stakeholders;
  • Communicates priorities as they relate to the specific subject areas and assists in the development of strategies for continuous improvement;
  • Executes program decisions that have been approved by the supervisor;
  • Schedules meetings and develops agendas, minutes and program reports; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of FACS subject matter, effective instructional strategies, and curriculum development and writing;
  • Strong instructional and facilitator skills;
  • Effective time management, documentation, and organizational skills;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with school administrators, classroom teachers, post-secondary staff and professional organizations in providing rigorous academic experiences for all students;
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail;
  • Excellent planning, budgeting and resource management skills;
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
  • Ability to analyze student performance data;
  • Experience providing professional development; and
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; major in Family and Consumer Sciences preferred.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Family and Consumer Sciences required.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional certificate appropriate to the area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
