Under the general direction of the Principal, the Program Coordinator - Montessori will coordinate, support and develop the Montessori program. This employee will also be responsible for the overall management and administration of the school’s Montessori program.
>Work with the ESP Office to facilitate the continued support and development of the PGCPS Montessori Program;
Represent the school at ESP Program meetings;
Support and participate in on-going Montessori professional development;
Assist/mentor classroom teachers in providing an authentic Montessori program at the request of teachers and/or administrators;
Observe students in classrooms at request of teachers, parents, and/or administrators;
Model Montessori lessons at teachers’ request;
Coordinate and conduct monthly Open House for prospective parents and community members;
Offer information to parents and community regarding the philosophy and methods of the Montessori Program;
Work with special subject teachers to raise awareness of Montessori philosophy and method;
Act as liaison between classroom teachers and special subject teachers;
Support paraprofessionals in understanding Montessori philosophy and applications in the classroom;
Assist administration in offering orientation for substitute teachers and lunch/recess monitors on Montessori philosophy and applications;
Participate in bi-weekly collaborative Team meetings;
Assist/coordinate quarterly planning meetings;
Participate in School Planning and Management Team;
Participate on IEP Team, including student observations;
Assist teachers and administrators in aligning Montessori curriculum with Maryland VSC;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Montessori certification required;
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to effectively accomplish duties of the position;
Strong oral and written communication skills; and
Effective human relations skills.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Montessori.
>Montessori certification and valid Maryland Teaching Certificate required. Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate preferred.
>No direct supervisory responsibilities.
