Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Instructional Supervisor, the Program Coordinator for Public Safety, Security, and Services (PSSS) is responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of PSSS programs. The incumbent of this position will ensure programs provide students with both academic and technical skills to gain industry certification and support the dual enrollment opportunities within the programs under Public Safety. The Program Coordinator will assist in the development of industry partnerships which provide students a variety of options after graduation to include apprenticeship programs, degree programs at two- and four-year colleges, private career schools, as well as industry-sponsored education and training.  Additionally, the Program Coordinator will assist in ensuring all programs of study are designed to prepare students for work as well as align with a college readiness curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as the liaison between the school sites assigned and the Career and Technical Education Instructional Supervisor;

Assists in monitoring instruction in the Public Safety, Security, and Service (PSSS) programs to ensure effectiveness of teaching and learning;

Assists in coordinating student recruitment/enrollment into the PSSS programs;

Assists in coordinating the maintenance and enhancement of PSSS program facilities;

Assists in coordinating the articulation between the PSSS programs and academic programs;

Maintains the CTE website; promotes and monitors PSSS student achievement through the CTE website;

Assists in coordinating and supporting PSSS teacher involvement in work-based learning experiences for students;

Coordinates and facilitates open house orientations for parents and students;

Conducts informal classrooms visitations in support of teacher and program needs; 

Orders equipment, supplies and materials for programs at various schools;

Assists in processing, assigning and notifying students of application status;

Engages in professional activities, which contribute to leadership development;

Communicates effectively with students, staff and administrative personnel, parents and community; 

Coordinates Advisory Board Meetings; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of Public Safety, Security and Services (PSSS) industry standards, MSDE state standards, and PGCPS program curriculum and instruction standards;

Experience with the formation of Federal or State Emergency Preparedness operations, plans and systems, knowledgeable on topics related to DHS, FEMA, Federal Agencies, State, County, local programs;

Demonstrated leadership and administrative competencies;

Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail;

Ability to organize and prioritize the many aspects of the position;effective time management, documentation and organizational skills;

Effective human relations skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

Ability to analyze student performance data;

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills;

Experience in providing professional development; strong instructional and facilitator skills;

Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex operations and activities in multiple settings; and

Evidence of effective leadership skills.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching/instructional experience;experience and familiarization in coordination of emergency preparedness and public safety and services response planning activities for catastrophic disasters or high visibility national incidents.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
