Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Roof Repairer II performs skilled and supervisory work in the installation, repair and/or maintenance of fences, roofs, and playground equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Receiving work orders from Master Foreman;

Discussing work to be done with Master Foreman, who usually inspects completed work;

Evaluating work to be accomplished from the standpoint of time, material and manpower required to complete the task;

Installing or repairing fencing surrounding school property;

Working as a member of the crew in digging post holes, stretching and installing fence material;

Repairing damaged fencing material in the same manner;

May be involved in some roof repairs;

Repairing playground equipment and restoring it to a safe and functional condition;

Installing various types of metal signs; and

Repairing lockers.

 

Qualifications:

Good knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fences and other general metals work;

Good knowledge of associated trades;

Ability to inspect work , determine manpower, material and time required;

Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, oral or written orders; and

Ability to work in situations involving exposure to accidents, injury, and occasional inclement weather.

 

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of full-time experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; some supervisory experience.

 

Certification:

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George's County Public School's Bulletin P-1-88 dated July 21, 1987).

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
