Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of security alarm systems located in schools, buildings and on bus lots throughout the school system. An employee in this class performs a variety of skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electronics and burglar alarm trades. Work assignments are either generated by the employee, who after analysis of alarm data determines a problem exists, or through both oral and written communication from the supervisor. The incumbent is allowed latitude for independent judgment because of technical nature of the position. Work is usually performed independently, but reviewed in terms of the accomplishment of objectives.
Completion of high school diploma or GED with considerable experience in electronic maintenance and repair of burglar and fire alarm systems preferably supplemented by completion of recognized apprenticeship in trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
