Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent in this position provides systems development for the school district’s Student Information System (SIS).  The work involves moderate tasks as assigned in the analysis, design/development and testing of SIS applications and customizations across related functional areas; ensures software, developed and deployed to the production environment, adheres to specified requirements; satisfies end-user needs and expectations; and meets the objectives of Prince George’s County Public Schools.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops and implements changes, extensions and enhancements to SIS application and reports adhering to established software standards and conventions;
  • Reviews, debugs and modifies existing customizations and reports, as needed;
  • Tests computer programs to ensure required functionality across all operating environments;
  • Implements enhancements to existing systems in response to statutory requirements or user-submitted requests;
  • Documents all procedures for software developments and customizations;
  • Identifies and applies the most innovative and efficient methods for developing and deploying new software programs and systems;
  • Reviews existing functions and recommends refinements, improvements, and enhancements to improve efficiency and performance;
  • Updates technical skills and knowledge through continuous self-directed learning, tutorials, and formal training;
  • Troubleshoots issues encountered by users, proposes resolutions, and resolves problems in a timely manner;
  • Provides support and guidance to internal and external users;
  • Ensures compliance with data privacy laws (i.e., FERPA, GDPR);
  • Collaborates with other developers and staff and participates in the design and development of new software applications; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of software development practices, business and administrative management systems, as well as student information systems;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational database management systems (Oracle and MS SQL Server preferred); proficient in SQL, PL/SQL, data import/export and report generation, and working knowledge of C#, Java and web application development;
  • Proficiency with tools, such as SQL Developer, TOAD and JDeveloper;
  • Ability to provide, under supervision, the most feasible approaches for developing new software systems;
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team; and
  • Effective human relations skills; good oral and written communications skills and the ability to express business and technical concepts both verbally and in writing.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or a related field, or a proven record of success as a Developer, with two (2) years of application development experience required.

None required.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
