Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Shops Coordinator, the Supervisor of Building Automation Systems will be responsible for overseeing the district’s building automation and energy management systems. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for coordinating with the Department of Capital Programs, Department of Information Technology and the various shops within Building Services for all issues regarding building automation and energy management. The Supervisor of Building Automation Systems will be responsible for overseeing and managing contracts and will coordinate and supervise assigned personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Department of Capital Programs to develop a strategic plan to address building automation and energy management;
  • Develops building automation and energy management standards for capital projects and other projects;
  • Coordinates and reviews building automation and energy management efforts; prepares findings and makes recommendations to address any issues;
  • Reviews and troubleshoots systems to ensure operability and functionality; prepares reports and analyzes data;
  • Designs and delivers training to personnel regarding building automation and energy management systems;
  • Assists with the establishment of contract guidelines and oversees implementation throughout completion; oversees contractors and service contracts;
  • Schedules and allocates personnel to fit the needs of rolling day-to-day projects;
  • Assists with developing and implementing standard operating procedures and administrative procedures;
  • Provides oversight, management, leadership, supervision and support to assigned team members; manages the day-to-day workflow to deliver strategic and effective services to the division and organization; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of building automation and energy management design, specifications repair, service and installation;
  • Knowledge of any of the following systems: Johnson Controls, Honeywell Spyder, – Tridium/Niagara or similar system;
  • Skilled in troubleshooting/repair/installation of building automation and/or energy management systems/platforms;
  • Ability to complete tasks with little supervision;
  • Good interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communications skills;
  • Ability to lead a team and supervise staff members;
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to plan, organize and provide direction;
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and report findings; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various departmental personnel and other school officials.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in building automation, energy management or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience required.   A combination of ten (10) years of related experience, training and coursework may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

Certification:

Niagara N4/AX Technical Certification required.  Honeywell Classic/Optimizer, Johnson Controls Metasys/Explorer or similar certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provides guidance and supervision to assigned personnel.
