Performs semi-skilled and routine tasks as a helper to a journeyman tradesman. The work of this class is of a routine semi-skilled nature involving responsibility for willing and efficient performance of assigned tasks. An incumbent of this position works under the supervision of a journeyman tradesman who assigns work to be done. A Trades Helper is expected to perform tasks of progressively increasing difficulty. The work is carefully checked in process and upon completion.
High school graduate preferably supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship or trade school and/or experience as a helper to a skilled tradesman.
Prince George’s County Apprentice Electrician License (Electric/Electronic Shops only); Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
