About the Program

The Drama/Theatre Department, led by Dr. Patricia Payne (Theatre Instructional Supervisor) and Ms. Bridgit Artis (Theatre Resource Teacher), provides students with opportunities to explore acting, technical theatre, improvisation, scene study, performance, and theatre history while developing a strong appreciation for the art form. In addition to curriculum support, the department sponsors the audition-based middle and high school Honors Theatre Ensemble and Theatre Performance Assessments. Students also benefit from working with regional industry professionals and participating in the annual middle and high school Theatre Festival, a community-building event that offers workshops, student voice opportunities, and collaboration across the theatre community. Central office staff may also conduct observations and provide targeted professional development and arts integration support.

Highlights of Theatre

  • The Theatre Office hosts an annual Theatre Festival for middle and high school theatre students from across the district to connect, engage in workshops, share their voices through playwriting, and create theatrical moments together.
  • Ongoing partnerships with regional theater companies.
  • Honors Theatre Ensemble is a collaborative, audition-based group that brings together talented students from multiple schools to rehearse and perform as one ensemble, building artistry and teamwork.
  • High School participation in the International Thespian Society provides additional networking and performance opportunities for our theatre enthusiasts.
  • The Young Dramatists program provides students with an opportunity to explore theatre through writing, using their voices to create and develop original work. This program empowers students to express their ideas, experiment with storytelling, and contribute new perspectives to the theatrical community.
