The primary objective of the Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) Government Relations is to keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments that could impact PGCPS to draft and review Prince George's County Board of Education (Board) policies and PGCPS administrative procedures. This involves conducting research, formulating positions, and effectively communicating these to policymakers.

The Office of Government Relations, Compliance, and Procedures (OGRCP) works to identify and engage with key stakeholders, including elected officials, government agencies, regulators, and advocacy groups. Building and maintaining these relationships is crucial for influencing decisions and gaining initiative support.

The OGRCP tracks and analyzes proposed legislation, provides input, and advocates for or against bills that impact their organization's interests.  The OGRCP is also engaged with government agencies responsible for implementing and enforcing regulations, including commenting on proposed regulations, participating in rule-making processes, and seeking exemptions or waivers when necessary.

The OGRCP monitors and addresses emerging issues that could affect the Prince George's County Public School system. This proactive approach helps identify challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing political and regulatory landscape.

By engaging with stakeholders, participating in the political process, and adhering to ethical principles, government relations will help bridge the divide between the public and private sectors, ultimately fostering a more informed, responsive, and accountable system of governance.
