Autism Extension Programs

PGCPS provides specially designed instruction for students with autism spectrum disorder, intensive behavioral needs and a significant cognitive disability. If a student requires intensive additional support not available within the neighborhood school, an autism program may be considered by the school team.  The PGCPS Extensions Program focuses on the TEACCH framework as well as addressing the unique social, communication, and behavior needs of students with Autism. These evidence-based instructional practices will strengthen teacher’s knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders, providing “Structured Teaching '' based on the unique learning needs with Autism who require visual information for processing, social communication, and intense executive functioning skills all while learning core instructional materials.  Students within our Extension  program are following the Alternate Framework Curriculum and Alternate Achievement Standards. Extension programs are located in comprehensive elementary schools.
