PGCPS defines STEM/STEAM as a trans-disciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply content knowledge to make connections, collaborate, think critically, question, reason, innovate, research, and communicate.
PGCPS Blueprint Schools program designates that all newly constructed middle schools now feature dedicated STEAM labs designed to foster 21st-century skills and transdisciplinary learning. These STEAM labs feature various equipment to engage in hands-on activities, including art supplies, drones, circuitry elements, 3D printers, and laser engravers. These STEAM labs can be found in the following middle/K-8 schools: Colin Powell Academy, Drew-Freeman, Ellen Ochoa, Hyattsville, Kenmoor, Sonia Sotomayor at Adelphi, Walker Mill, and William Wirt.
