About Dr. McDaniel

Dr. Kia McDaniel is an accomplished educational leader with extensive experience advancing curriculum, instruction, and equitable learning opportunities for students. She currently serves as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), where she provides strategic leadership for K–12 programs across English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health and physical education, world languages, English language development, and library media.

Throughout her career, Dr. McDaniel has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including classroom teacher, reading specialist, English Language Development (ELD) teacher, instructional specialist, ELD instructional supervisor, and Coordinating Supervisor of Specialty Programs. This broad range of experience has shaped her comprehensive understanding of teaching and learning, as well as her commitment to ensuring that every student has access to rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive instruction.

In her current role, Dr. McDaniel leads districtwide efforts to strengthen instructional coherence, implement high-quality curriculum, support effective professional learning, and improve outcomes for all students. Her leadership emphasizes collaboration across departments, the use of research and data to inform decision-making, and the development of clear instructional systems that support teachers, school leaders, and students. Her research interests center on English learners with disabilities and the instructional practices needed to support their academic achievement and language development.

Through both her district leadership and university teaching, she remains committed to developing educators, strengthening instructional practice, and creating equitable pathways to success for every student.
