Dear Mighty Eagle Families,Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!
I hope your family has enjoyed a wonderful summer and is ready for another exciting year of learning, growing, and soaring at Patuxent Elementary School. We are eagerly preparing our Eagles’ N.E.S.T. to welcome our scholars back for the first day of school on August 25, 2026.Every new school year brings possibility. It gives us an opportunity to build upon what we have learned, strengthen what is working, and be intentional about creating even better experiences for our children. This year, Prince George’s County Public Schools are moving Forward By Design. At Patuxent, we will embrace that vision by continuing our commitment to IMPACT and challenging ourselves to ELEVATE our IMPACT for every Mighty Eagle. Our Eagles’ N.E.S.T. - Nurturing and Educating Scholars Together, continues to remind us that educating children is a partnership. Our students achieve at their highest levels when school, home, and community work together with a shared belief in what children are capable of accomplishing.
This year, IMPACT means:
I is for INTENTIONAL. We will be purposeful about the learning experiences, supports, relationships, and opportunities we provide our students. Every decision should move our scholars closer to success.
M is for MAXIMIZE. We will maximize every child’s potential by protecting instructional time, providing meaningful learning experiences, and helping students recognize just how capable they are.
P is for PARTNER. Families are essential members of our N.E.S.T. We want to partner with you, communicate with you, listen to you, and work alongside you throughout the year.
A is for ACT. When our students need us, we will respond. We will use information about their academic progress, attendance, behavior, and well-being to take timely action and provide appropriate support.
C is for CULTIVATE. We will cultivate an environment where children feel safe, loved, challenged, respected, and proud to belong. We want every Mighty Eagle to know that Patuxent is a place where they are valued and expected to soar.
T is for TRACK. We will closely monitor student learning and growth throughout the year. Families will be important partners in this process as we celebrate progress, identify areas for growth, and determine next steps together.
At Patuxent, we believe every scholar is capable of achieving at high levels. We are committed to providing challenging, grade-level learning while giving students the support they need to think deeply, solve problems, build independence, and experience success. Simply put, we will scaffold access, not expectations meeting our scholars where they are while continuing to challenge them toward where we know they can go. This is how we ELEVATE our IMPACT, and families, we need you as partners on this journey.
Please stay connected through ClassDojo and ParentVUE, communicate regularly with your child’s teacher, attend school events and conferences, monitor attendance and academic progress, and most importantly continue reminding your child that you believe in their ability to succeed.
As we move Forward By Design, our success will not simply be measured by what we planned to do. It will be measured by what our children experience and ultimately accomplish because of the work we do together.Thank you for trusting us with your child and for being an essential part of our Eagles’ N.E.S.T. We look forward to partnering with you as we make the 2026-2027 school year one of growth, achievement, and possibility for every Mighty Eagle.Forward By Design is how we move.IMPACT is how we lead.ELEVATE is what happens when we do both with intention.
