Brandywine Elementary School teacher Michelle Wickliffe received the SMECO Teacher of the Year Award for exceptional leadership, creativity, and impact in STEM education.
“As my father likes to say, I have been a teacher at heart since he can remember, starting with me teaching my stuffed animals in my make-shift bedroom classroom,” Wickliffe shared. “While the confirmation of success from my students has always been the goal, it has truly been an honor to be recognized by my professional community. This award was the ‘job well-done’ that we often don't get to hear.”
The SMECO Outstanding Teacher Awards honor local educators for their leadership in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and career and technology education. Over the past 33 years, SMECO has recognized nearly 500 outstanding local math and science educators.
With more than 20 years of experience as both a classroom teacher and teacher leader, Wickliffe continues to ignite a love of learning and inspire the next generation.
