Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has launched a bold new effort to tap into the creativity and problem-solving talents of its workforce through the Strategic Planning Innovation Incubator Pilot — a key initiative under the district’s T26 Strategic Plan.

The pilot, developed by the Office of Strategic Planning and Resource Management,  is designed to cultivate fresh thinking and collaborative solutions to long-standing challenges in education. Over the course of five months, nine PGCPS employees — known as “Innovators” — have been developing and testing ideas aimed at strengthening operations and instruction across schools and central offices.

Projects range from increasing classroom attendance to overhauling the employee onboarding experience. Each Innovator is using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle to shape their ideas into actionable solutions. Participants are paired with district professionals and University of Maryland partners, receiving coaching, feedback, and ongoing mentorship throughout the process.

In June, the inaugural cohort will present the outcomes of their work and share insights gained through this unique journey. As part of their development, Innovators also take part in “Innovation Hours,” a series of working sessions and pitch opportunities that encourage refinement through collaboration.

District leaders see the incubator as a powerful tool to support continuous improvement and employee-led innovation. It also aligns with PGCPS’ broader commitment to engaging staff in meaningful professional development that ultimately benefits students and families.
