As the Class of 2025 prepares to turn tassels and step into the future, two graduating seniors — Christina Morton of Surrattsville High School and Donovan Hemans of C. Elizabeth Rieg Regional School — reflect the power of perseverance, purpose, and personalized learning across Prince George’s County Public Schools.

From elementary school to graduation, Christina and Donovan followed very different paths — yet both journeys embody the district’s mission to prepare all students for college, careers, and life.

Christina, a student in the Surrattsville High School Autism Program, has excelled academically while leading with kindness and drive. From the swim team and volleyball court to her entrepreneurial crochet business and part-time job at a daycare center, Christina brings passion and purpose to everything she does.

This fall, she will attend Prince George’s Community College to study early childhood special education, with plans to join the next generation of educators who uplift and inspire students like herself.

Meanwhile, Donovan is closing a 16-year chapter at C. Elizabeth Rieg Regional School with a legacy of quiet leadership and resilience. Nonverbal but deeply expressive, Donovan championed safety and inclusion daily, ensuring every classmate boarded their bus before he did.

His journey, enriched by academic growth, real-world learning, and Special Olympics participation, shows that success looks different for every student. Supported by family, educators, and a strong school community, Donovan is ready for his next chapter in adult learning and community engagement.

“Donovan’s mother, Ms. Hemans, has been a powerful advocate not only for her son, but for the entire Rieg community. As PTA president for the past decade, she has championed parent involvement and uplifted the work of teachers and staff who create a safe, enriching environment for all students. This year, she will serve as the parent speaker at the 2025 Regional School Graduation — a fitting honor for her years of dedication and leadership.”

Both Christina and Donovan are testaments to what’s possible when students are seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are. Their achievements reflect the district’s mission for diverse talents to be nurtured, inclusive learning to thrive, and every student to be empowered to excel.
