Nearly 300 students from 17 middle schools gathered for the 5th Annual Middle Grades Math Meet — a day dedicated to celebrating creativity, collaboration, and a passion for problem-solving through mathematics.
The event challenged students across four rounds of interactive activities that pushed them to think critically and apply their math skills in new and exciting ways. From coding robots and engineering boats within a $25 budget to estimating the weight of $6,000 in quarters, participants embraced each challenge with energy and enthusiasm.
In the STEM Rounds, students explored coding and engineering, while Collaboration Rounds tested their teamwork and real-world problem-solving abilities. Team Rounds gave students the chance to tackle a variety of math topics — from proportional reasoning to geometry — on a digital platform. Finally, the Individual Rounds allowed students to showcase their independent problem-solving skills, with individual scores contributing to overall team standings.
At the end of the competition, student scores were tallied and medals were awarded to the top three teams, with the first-place team bringing home a trophy for their school.
While students competed, families took part in workshops designed to help them better support their children's math learning at home. Program vendors were also on hand, sharing valuable resources to help families continue building their students' math skills throughout the school year and into the summer.
