Prince George's County Public Schools' (PGCPS) commitment to excellence, equity and opportunity for every student remains unwavering. Today, we are proud to share that development of a new three-year Strategic Plan is underway.
To officially launch this important work, Interim Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Joseph, invites the PGCPS community to view a video message outlining a bold vision for our future and the path we will take together through our new Strategic Plan. In the video, the Superintendent emphasizes that this plan is not just a document, but a shared commitment to student success and continuous improvement across our district.
This plan will serve as our roadmap for the future, guiding how we strengthen teaching and learning, support our workforce, engage families and ensure every student graduates prepared for success in college, career, and life.

Over the past months, we've been hearing from you and gathering your perspectives through our Interim Superintendent's listening sessions, various community town halls, focus groups, and our climate and culture survey. Your voices have highlighted a clear set of emerging themes: elevating student success, strengthening development and career pathways for staff and leaders, ensuring all students have access to rigorous coursework, supporting student well‑being, deepening family and community partnerships, maintaining safe and clean learning/work environments, and providing the resources necessary to make this work possible.

As we transition into shaping the plan itself, we are building from a strong foundation. We are reflecting on lessons learned, reviewing performance data, and aligning with state priorities, including the goals of the Blueprint for Maryland's Future. We are examining what is working, where growth is needed, and how to accelerate progress in meaningful, measurable ways.

This process is thoughtful and intentional. It centers on:
Most importantly, it centers on people.

Our students, families, employees, and community partners are not observers in this work, they are contributors. Their perspectives are helping shape the vision and priorities that will guide the district over the next three years, and some of their input is shared below:
One thing that really helps me is that when a teacher teaches, they don't just give a lecture. They include the topic with the story they had in their life or something. They make it a little personal, which makes you feel interested. – PGCPS Student
While my children's schools maintain proficiency, there is less emphasis on developing skills for real-world readiness. – Parent of PGCPS Student
We need to create a 'Culture of Calm' within PGCPS where mindfulness and restorative justice are the standard, not the exception. – PGCPS Employee

Constant communication and clarity for parents, for staff, for community partners. It's so very important for us to be able to work well together and to provide the learning and emotional well-being for not just our students, but for the whole school community. – Community Partner
These perspectives, along with many others, are helping identify common themes and emerging priorities that will guide our work moving forward.

This is only the beginning.
We are eager to hear from you! Be sure to complete the Input form and contribute your vital perspective to this exciting new chapter.
In the months ahead, there will be additional opportunities for students, staff, families, and community members to lend their voices as priorities and strategies are refined and finalized. Your insight, experience, and perspective matter.
The future of PGCPS belongs to all of us. Let's move forward together!
