It’s National School Counseling Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the vital role school counselors play in supporting students’ academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and future success. Presented by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), this year’s theme is School Counselors Amplify Student Success which reflects the powerful impact counselors have every day across our schools.
School counselors do far more than support schedules and graduation plans. They build trust, advocate for equity, identify student needs early, and connect families, educators, and community partners to ensure students receive the right support at the right time. Their work is proactive, intentional, and deeply rooted in relationships.
This week, we are proud to highlight three exceptional school counselors whose dedication and passion exemplify the heart of this profession.

John Morgan began his career in PGCPS in 1995 at Parkdale High School and has since served at John Hanson Alternative High School, Potomac High School, Friendly High School, Calverton Elementary School, and currently Suitland High School. Across every role, his focus has remained the same: supporting students’ academic success, social-emotional growth, and long-term development.
Raised by parents whose careers centered on counseling and public safety, Morgan developed a people-centered, solutions-focused approach early in life—one grounded in fairness, communication, and helping others make better decisions.
“I do this work to help students become better—not just academically, but as people.” — John Morgan

With 21 years of experience in education, including 17 years serving Prince George’s County Public Schools and 16 years as a school counselor, Keisha Branch brings deep expertise, intention, and heart to her work. She currently serves as the school counselor at Apple Grove Elementary School, where she is known as a trusted advocate for students, families, and staff.
Early in her life, Branch was told that her mistakes would limit her future—an experience that now fuels her commitment to students. Instead, she focuses on helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and take courageous steps toward shaping their own paths.
“I make sure no student is ever defined by their mistakes—only by the growth and possibilities ahead of them.” — Keisha Branch

Desiree Moore brings 8 years of experience as a school counselor, including 4 years serving Prince George’s County Public Schools, to her work supporting students’ academic, social, and personal growth. She is passionate about helping students navigate challenges while discovering their strengths, building confidence, and preparing for future success.
Born in a small town in Germany, Moore has always valued multiculturalism and learning from different cultures. This background informs her work, helping her create inclusive environments where students feel seen, respected, and supported. She centers equity in all she does, building meaningful relationships and advocating for students so they can develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed both in school and in life.
“Every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported—especially during the moments that shape their confidence and future.” — Desiree Moore
