At-a-Glance: Early Childhood Program Registration and Application Process

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has several early childhood learning opportunities for children 3-5 years old. 

Program Admissions

Preschool Opportunities for Three Year Olds

The program provides a preschool learning opportunity for non-disabled three year old children. Children with varying disabilities and non-disabled peers will have the opportunity to learn and play together, build self-esteem, and develop acceptance of others. All children will have access to a developmentally appropriate curriculum which includes learning centers for activities such as dramatic play, exploration of sand and water, computer learning, math/science, art and writing.

Prekindergarten

Children admitted to the prekindergarten program must be at least four (4) years old on or before September 1 of the school year in which they apply for entrance. If your child does not meet this criteria, you may apply for Early Entrance. To be eligible for Early Entrance, your child must turn four (4) years old between Sept. 2 – Oct. 15.

Kindergarten

Children admitted to the kindergarten program must be at least five (5) years old on or before September 1 of the school year in which they apply for entrance. If your child does not meet this criteria, you may apply for Early Entrance. To be eligible for Early Entrance, your child must turn five (5) years old between Sept. 2 – Oct. 15.
